STUDY: Healthe AIR™ 2.0 – 3rd Party Product Testing Study

I. Product Description

Healthe AIR 2.0 is a localized, ceiling mounted light fixture that improves air quality in occupied spaces by actively processing air within a cleansing chamber.

In each stand-alone Healthe Air fixture, interior fans pull air from the room through an activated carbon and HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filter at 50 cubic feet per minute, then across germicidal UVC LEDs in the cleansing chamber, and clean air is expelled into the space. The HEPA filter traps pollutants such as bacteria, mold spores, pollen, pet dander and dust mites. The activated carbon removes gases, chemicals and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and odors. With most particulates removed, the air and any remaining microbes pass over 265nm UVC LEDs, disrupting their genetic material to prevent replication.

II. System Benefits

Healthe Air is ALWAYS ON in occupied spaces. The integral motion sensor activates the cleaning process when people are present, providing a CONTINUOUS cleaning process as opposed to intermittent solutions that require manual labor or must be completed when the environment is unoccupied.

Healthe Air provides an immediate, LOCAL solution to improve air quality at the source of bioburden introduction – where people are sneezing, coughing and breathing. Compromised air does not require transport through an HVAC ducting system prior to reaching a filter or UV lamps, reducing potential room cross contamination. Healthe Air units are positioned within a room ceiling to pull and sanitize air from the breathing zone, as compared to portable air purifiers that are often relegated to room corners.

Healthe Air is a drop-in replacement for existing troffer light fixtures in a t-grid ceiling or a simple install for new construction. Each troffer is a self-contained sanitization and light system, so as few or as many can be deployed to fit the size and demands of the environment.

The Healthe Air solution is chemical-free and all UV exposure is shielded within the fixture cleaning chamber providing a safe environment for occupants at all times.

III. Efficacy

CREM Co., a 3rd party laboratory, validated the Healthe 2.0 efficacy using aerosolized Phage MS2 (ATCC 15597-B1). MS2 is a surrogate for RNA viruses and is structurally similar to noroviruses. The natural life decay of MS2 was compared to the reduction of MS2 with Healthe Air 2.0 in operation. As shown in Figure 2, a 1 log kill (90% reduction) was reached in 15 minutes and a 3 log kill (99.9% reduction) in 70 minutes.

A similar test was conducted with aerosolized Cystovirus Phi6 (ATCC 21781-B1), a surrogate for viruses such as influenza and coronaviruses. A 1 log reduction (90%) was achieved in 15 minutes with the Healthe Air as compared to the natural decay of Phi6.

IV. Certifications and Safety

Healthe Air 2.0 is UL listed. All UV is shielded within the cleaning chamber during operation and a safety switch shuts off the UV LEDs and fan if the doors are opened for maintenance. The UV wavelengths employed do not produce ozone and the device is registered with the California Air Resources Board (CARB). Product labels include EPA establishment number.
